An Affirming Community with Rich History
We were the first community in Portland to welcome African-Americans to the Episcopal Church in the 1920's. We were home to Japanese-Americans who returned to Portland after internment in the 1940's. We were the first church in Portland to lead a marriage ceremony for an interracial couple in the 1960's. We called the first woman rector to an Episcopal church in Oregon. We started the first chapter of Journey, the LGBTQ advocacy group in the Episcopal Church. We are part of Believe Out Loud, a network of LGBTQ+ affirming church communities. We have always served the marginalized, and we continue to work for justice and equality for all people.
